Join the Lab
We are a young, growing lab that values creativity, rigor, and collaboration. Our work sits at the intersection of biology and physics, and we believe the most interesting science happens when people with different training work closely together. We actively recruit people from diverse scientific backgrounds.
Regardless of career stage, we are looking for people who are curious, self-motivated, and excited about building something new. If our research resonates with you, please get in touch, even if there is no specific opening listed below.
Open Positions
Postdoctoral Fellows
Actively recruitingWe welcome applications from candidates with a strong background in one or more of the following: cell biology, developmental biology, biophysics, soft matter physics, or computational biology. Postdocs in the lab develop independent research directions and are supported in building their own scientific identity. We provide mentorship in presentations and career planning.
Graduate Students
Accepting rotation studentsWe accept students through several PhD programs: Joint CMU-Pitt Ph.D. Program in Computational Biology (CPCB), Cell Molecular and Systems Biology (CMSB) PhD Program, Physics & Astronomy, and Bioengineering. Rotation students are always welcome. Rotations are a good way to explore whether the lab is the right fit. We look for students who are curious, quantitatively inclined, and excited about working at the interface of experiment and theory.
Undergraduate Researchers
Open on a rolling basisWe regularly host undergraduates for semester or summer research. Students from biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, and engineering are all welcome. Undergrad researchers take ownership of a real project (not just assisting) and have the opportunity to contribute to publications. We also participate in structured summer programs for motivated students.
What We Offer
- Mentorship
- Regular one-on-one meetings, feedback on manuscripts and presentations, and support for your long-term career goals, in academia or beyond.
- Cross-disciplinary training
- Hands-on experience across wet lab, imaging, and computation, depending on your project and interests. We encourage learning outside your primary expertise.
- Collaborative environment
- Active collaborations across Pitt, CMU, and internationally. Lab members regularly attend conferences and visit collaborating labs.
- Resources
- Access to state-of-the-art microscopy facilities, high-performance computing, and the vibrant research community at the University of Pittsburgh.
